Program
Discover one of the most beautiful canyons in the Vercors: the Ecouges. You will learn how to abseil by yourself in waterfalls up to 60 meters, then you will be able to jump and slide in beautiful waterfalls. Jumps are never mandatory but if you don't like to jump, another trip may be better for you. Don't hesitate to ask us.
You need prior experience in canyoning, climbing, caving or mountaineering.
Prerequisite
You are required to be in good shape.
Canyoning
Canyoning is a mountain activity that involves descending torrents and rivers, some more enclosed than others, on foot. Obstacles encountered (especially waterfalls) are overcome either by jumping, sliding, rappelling, or using a zip line.
Equipment
Canyoning requires wearing a 5 mm neoprene wetsuit because the river water is cold, a harness for rappelling, and a helmet for safety. All this equipment is provided for your trip. You will use recent, certified, and regularly inspected equipment.
What to bring
Most of the equipment is provided, but Canyon Envie asks that you bring the following equipment for outings:
- A pair of lace-up sneakers (no water shoes!)
- A swimsuit and a towel
- Change of clothes and shoes for after the outing
- A bottle of water and a snack or a picnic
- Your most beautiful smile!
Program
Your guide, Noémie, will wait for you at the car park. You will get dressed there with a neoprene wetsuit, neoprene socks, a harness and a helmet.
Then you will take a shuttle and park the car at the top of the canyon. The river is just beginning at the upper car park.
You will then go down the first part of this canyon which is a really narrow part with high waterfalls between 10 to 60 m. The last one is the 60 m waterfall, and you will have a beautiful view of the valley.
You will have lunch between the two parts.
After lunch, you will do the second part, more open and more fun. You will abseil 2 first waterfalls: 10 m and 25 m, then a short walk and you arrive at a more narrow part where you will be able to jump and slide. The canyon finishes on a fun abseil in a beautiful 10 m waterfall.
Then you will have to walk up 20 minutes on a path to get back to the car park.
Instructors
Noemie Castaing
Noémie has been canyoning since 2017 and has been involved in outdoor sports in general since childhood. Canyoning is her passion, and she loves sharing it! For her, there’s no off-season for canyoning; she’s in the water summer and winter, wetsuit or no wetsuit. She has canyoned in many places around the world (New Zealand, Italy, Portugal, Réunion Island, Guadeloupe, Switzerland, Nepal) and has participated in some expeditions. Before becoming a professional instructor, she earned a master’s degree in ecology and then worked for several years in naturalist associations.
Location
This canyon is in the Vercors, in the Saint-Gervais district. The meeting point is directly at the car park of the canyon.
Les Ecouges is the flagship canyon of the Vercors, considered one of the most beautiful.
The upper section, reserved for experienced and comfortable rappelers, takes place in a narrow and particularly beautiful canyon. The final 60 m waterfall is the highlight of this descent.
The lower part, more open and more playful, will allow you to perform some aesthetic rappels, but above all, numerous jumps and natural slides.
