Ayahuasca Retreats typically include one or more Ayahuasca ceremonies. Before this ceremony, you may also partake in different rituals or other ceremonies.
During the Ayahuasca ceremony, which takes about 5-6 hours, you’ll drink the Ayahuasca brew, in the form of a brownish-colored tea. It’s a brew usually made from the leaves of Psychotria viridis (chacruna) and the vines of Banisteriopsis caapi (soul vine).
Together, they induce psychedelic effects that usually begin around 30 minutes after consumption. These may include visual hallucinations, powerful insights, and the feeling that your entire being is being purged. After the ceremony, participants will discuss the experience with others, helping each other process their journeys.
People usually come to the retreats with various goals related to healing past trauma, self-discovery, or something else. The instructors at the retreat will guide the participants toward their goals, helping them overcome any obstacles. Some retreats also include yoga and meditation sessions or nature walks.
You’ll stay in serene accommodation, surrounded by nature, close to the coast, or in the middle of the jungle. Do note that you won’t have access to your electronic devices, allowing you to fully disconnect from the world.
