8 Day Guided Hiking Tour in Jordan

This is a physically demanding tour, and preparation is required. This tour is rated as slightly above moderate. You should be comfortable with walking 10 kilometers a day for an entire week. The terrain is varied with steep but short ascents or descents. As this is a group tour, your guide will choose the most convenient pace for everyone involved. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Amman

Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). An optional airport transfer can be arranged from the airport to Amman at an additional fee. Overnight in Amman.

Day 2: Amman - Dana Hike - Little Petra

Your guide will meet you at 8:00 a.m. with a transfer south to Dana Nature Reserve so to start hiking Shaq Al Reesh trail or similar. This circular trail traverses from Al-Barrah, through a breathtaking siq, and to Shaq al Reesh. Overnight in Little Petra.

• Elevation: +350 meters, -400 meters
• Duration: 5 hours
• Transfer time from Amman to Dana: approximately 2 hours 45 minutes (205 kilometers)
• Transfer time from Dana to Little Petra: approximately 1 hour (52 kilometers)

Day 3: Hike from Little Petra to Petra

After breakfast, it is time to start your hike. Enter Petra via the Back Door, avoiding most of the tourists. Good tracks lead pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab, amidst sandstone mountains that guard the approaches to Petra. This route follows a Nabataean path out of the valley, skirting around the final mountain on a natural rock terrace that has been improved for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh.

Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, The Monastery suddenly comes into view, where there is a Bedouin coffee shop for refreshments if you would like. Nabataean steps then lead down into ancient Petra, through which the route goes before exiting past The Treasury and through the famous Petra Siq to the shops, diners, and hotels of Wadi Musa. Day 4: Petra Siq Trail - Wadi Farasa - High Place of Sacrifice - Madras Trail - Petra Visitors Center

After breakfast, you will leave your hotel and head to the Petra Visitors Center. Enter the city through a one-kilometer-long narrow gorge, which is flanked on either side by 80-meter-high cliffs. Notice the dazzling colors and formations of the rocks. The site is massive and contains hundreds of elaborately rock-cut tombs, a treasury, Roman-style theaters, temples, and sacrificial altars.

You will cross the colonnaded street to Wadi Farasa, passing many sites including the Renaissance Tomb and the Soldier Tomb, and climb up to Jabal al-Madhbah (the High Place of Sacrifice) with sweeping views of the Royal Tombs. From there, you head on the Madras Trail, tucked into the hills south of the Siq, arriving near the Obelisk Tomb. Overnight in Petra.

Day 5: Petra - Wadi Rum hike and jeep tour

After breakfast, take a transfer to Wadi Rum to spend a full day there. You will start your desert adventure with a jeep safari exploring this World Heritage Site, traveling around Wadi Rum’s valleys, canyons, dunes, and deserts. Discover rock inscriptions, majestic mountain views and landscapes, and narrow gorges. At each stop, you have the opportunity to hike, scramble, and explore in your own time. After the jeep tour, you will have a trek in the desert. The trail passes through multiple canyons, takes you to Um Frouth Rock Arch, and then to your camp. Overnight in Wadi Rum.

Day 6: Hike Jabal Umm Al-Dami - Wadi Nuqra

After breakfast, you will drive for around one hour to the foot of the mountain. Umm ad-Dami, at more than 1,800 meters, is the highest peak in Jordan, offering a whole new perspective of the desert from its summit. To the south, you can see the border with Saudi Arabia; to the north, Jebel Rum (next to Rum Village). You will climb to the summit and return to the desert floor. On your way back, after you finish your hike to Umm ad-Dami, you will continue to Wadi Nuqra for a short hike until you reach the viewpoint. A desert-cooked lunch will be served, after which you will be transferred to your camp in Wadi Rum to relax. Free time in the evening at camp. Overnight in Wadi Rum.

Day 7: Wadi Rum - Dead Sea - Amman

Depart from Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea to enjoy the rest of your day relaxing, floating in the salt waters, or resting by the pool. You can also pamper yourself with your chosen spa treatment. Then transfer to Amman. Transfer from Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea takes around four hours. Transfer from the Dead Sea to Amman takes around one hour. Overnight in Amman.

• Dead Sea visit: 4 - 5 hours

Day 8: Amman - Departure

Depart for the airport to catch your flight. An optional transfer can be arranged (supplements apply).
