So you’ve booked your next detox retreat and are all prepped for the travel. But are you prepped for the detox process itself?

A detox retreat can be beneficial for the body but it is also mentally and physically challenging. That said, being properly prepared before going into a detox will help you greatly in easing through the process!

Here are five tips to help you get ready for a detox:

Have the right mindset

First, answer this question honestly: why are you going on detox retreat? Are you doing it for fast results or are you in it for the long run?

Be clear about your motivations prior to starting your detox because a cleanse can be an emotionally and physically challenging journey. It’s definitely helpful to have a good support system, be it your family and/or friends to help you through the process. If that’s not possible, rest assured that you’ll find a nourishing and supportive environment at the retreat itself. You’ll share the same challenges, same ups and downs, and same blissful results together.

Overhaul your diet

Depending on the type of detox retreats that you’d be heading to, chances are you’ll be eating mostly raw food, or going on a juice fast every day. It is important that you gradually start to change your diet weeks before you go on the retreat to avoid putting your body into shock.

Prepare your body by adding more whole foods into your diet, removing junk food and sugary drinks. You might also want to cut back on animal protein and eat more fruits and vegetables instead.

Avoid over-exercising

Ideally, you’d want to join a detox program when your body is at its optimal level. High-intensity exercises will cause the body to produce stress hormones as well as cause fatigue.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t exercise! For instance, yoga complements detox perfectly!

Cut down on caffeine

Coffee lovers will find this difficult but, cutting down on caffeine before your detox retreat will help prevent your body from going into caffeine withdrawal once you start your detox.

Like your diet overhaul, remove caffeine gradually. If you’re used to drinking three cups of coffee a day, drink one less cup each day. Substitute your coffee with green tea or other herbal teas. You will be less dependent on caffeine in no time!

Plan for the future

A detox retreat shouldn’t be a one-off cleanse. It is meant to kickstart a healthier life. With that in mind, be sure to set goals and effective diet plans for after your detox retreats. Continuously search on the web and health books for good health tips that will help you lead a healthy life.

Remember that this is a lifestyle change that you need to stick to for the rest of your life. Make necessary adjustments including eating habits so that the benefits you gain during your retreat don’t go to waste!
