Accommodation
The secluded Trolltunga camp is beautifully located on a cliff ledge 1200 meters above sea level. In camp, you can enjoy the sunset, sunrise, and a panoramic view over the surrounding mountains and Lake Ringedal. You spend the evening here eating a delicious dinner, drinking hot chocolate, and sitting around the campfire, perhaps trying out the Norwegian version of S’mores before spending the night in your very special Heimplanet tents.
Program
This tour is for those who want as much time as possible at Trolltunga with fewer people around. Experience the sunset, peaceful mountains, and the special light in the morning before the crowds arrive.
A beautiful campsite not far from Trolltunga is used for the evening and overnight stay. The camp is tucked away from the main paths and is one of the most secluded camps near Trolltunga.
At camp, traditional local reindeer stew (or a vegan option) is prepared and served while guests relax around the campfire. If the weather is good, a hike to the original Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) takes place, a stunning cliff formation as magical as the more famous Trolltunga.
Meeting time is 11:15 at the Skjeggedal (P2) meeting point. Guides welcome the group and provide a shuttle to Mågelitopp (P3), where the hike begins.
The hike to Trolltunga is 10 km long and offers views of Folgefonna Glacier, Lake Ringedal, and the surrounding nature. Along the way, small detours are made to hidden gems and the best photo spots. Around 15:00, a classic Norwegian mountain lunch is served at a scenic lunch spot. Depending on the pace of the group, Trolltunga is reached around 17:00, allowing time to enjoy one of Europe’s most spectacular rock formations.
Upon arrival at camp, a private tent is assigned for guests and their travel companions. The camp is a short walk from Trolltunga, allowing the possibility to return for sunset views. In the evening, local reindeer stew (or a vegan option) is prepared. After dinner, guests can relax, enjoy the views, and spend time with the group.
If the weather permits, a campfire is prepared for making Norwegian s’mores and drinking hot chocolate with whipped cream. When the sky is clear, a starry sky can be seen over the mountains. There is also a possibility for an evening excursion to the original Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), a cliff formation as magical as Trolltunga. For a restful night’s sleep, a swim in the nearby secret pond is recommended.
Guides wake guests early the next morning and serve breakfast with coffee or tea in bed. After breakfast, Trolltunga is visited again in the special morning light before starting the return hike. The group typically arrives back at the parking lot between 14:00 and 15:00, depending on the weather and the pace of the group.
The following items are provided: tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, sleeping liners, food, coffee or tea, and local surprises. Guests only need to bring a backpack, warm clothes, optional swimwear, and snacks. The packing list should be checked before the hike.
Location
Trolltunga is located in the Hardanger region in Norway. It is close to Bergen, Stavanger, and Haugesund and is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in Norway. Two national parks, two national tourist routes, fjords, waterfalls, and glaciers await you. The Hardangerfjord is 179 km long and is the third-longest fjord in the world.
Odda is the largest city in this region and is located about a 20-minute drive from the starting point to Trolltunga, P2 Skjeggedal. The city is surrounded by rushing waterfalls, emerald fjords, blue glaciers, silvery peaks, and lush valleys. If you want to travel to this region, it’s easiest to travel by car, but you can also go by bus, boat, and train.
Tyssedal is the nearest town to the starting point of the hike. It is a great jumping-off point for all Trolltunga adventures, including the Fjord Kayak tours and Sider Experience tours.
